BC Health Care & Medical Services

Medical Services

Canadians and British Columbians, are fortunate to enjoy a Universal Medical Service Plan.

Cities and towns throughout B.C. have up-to-date hospital facilities. There are doctors in almost all communities in British Columbia. In the larger centres there are usually general practitioners, specialists and walk-in clinics. B.C. has an efficient ambulance service and a medi-vac service, if needed.

Medical Insurance & Health Plans

Visitors planning a trip to our beautiful country and province should obtain health insurance before entering. If you do have a health plan, if is best to double check what coverage your insurance will pay, as some plans only cover partial services obtained outside their borders. Please carry all your insurance papers with you stating your coverage.

If you are on prescribed medication, carry a copy of your prescription, in case you need to have it renewed by a doctor in B.C.

In case of an emergency, call 911 where available, or you will find all emergency numbers listed on the inside front cover of the local telephone directory.
